Advice for Parents
"Why don't you plant more vegetables in your garden rather than having only flowery decorative plants?"
"Stop wearing these dull colors, wear bright colors and feel lively!"
"It's high time! You should now replace your car with a new one."
Advice is one thing that you get very often, very easily and absolutely free of cost. Unfortunately, most of the times the advice you are getting is of no use in your situation, and this "useless" advice makes you feel irritated. Useless advices are not easy to take, and useful advices are not easy to give.
Free advice to the Advice Takers
It is true that most of the incoming advice is useless, and there is no ‘thought’ inside it, but you have to understand that not all advices are junk. You should apply certain filters to let the better advice come in and useless advice go, because a thoughtful experienced advice can prove to be very helpful if implemented properly. We generally do the mistake of feeling irritated by the person who is giving us junk advice, but we have to realize that such people (who give silly advices) do not really intend to misguide us. Their ill quality advice could be a result of lack of experience, communication skills or understanding, generally they do not have any bad intentions behind the bad quality of their advice. Do not be rude while rejecting someone's advice. You may generously try explaining them that their idea is good otherwise, but why in your situation it is not possible for you to implement it. If you happen to get benifitted by someone's advice, do remember to thank them and give them their due credit by praising them for giving you such useful advice.
Free advice to the Advice Givers
Advice giver has to be more cautious than advice taker. In giving advices, try to be morally and ethically correct rather than being politically correct. Make it a point to understand all aspects of the situation thoroughly then form an opinion based on which come up with a very thoughtful and useful advice. Most important is that you present your advice in a very generous manner, do not make the other person feel that you are not advicing but dictating them. Your advice talks a lot about you, and it plays an important role in your image formation. If you will give silly thoughtless advices, obviously others will think of you as a fool, so be sure about the accuracy and usefulness of your advice before giving it. Also, be prepared to face denial, because sometimes the other person (whom you are giving your advice to) may not get convinced with the usefulness of your idea or may not be in a position to implement it. Do not hold grudges against this person just because he is not following your advice.
